Amazon and Manu National Park Tour

Lying east of the Andes, home to a prolific ecosystem of fauna and flora, the mystical and magnificent Peruvian Amazonia is believed to cover over 60% of Peru’s land mass. After years of research and much debate, the Apacheta Creek located in Peru is now considered the birthplace of the Amazon River.

Manu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which lies southeast of the Amazon basin, is home to over 4,000 animal species and over 20,000 plant varieties. Along this Amazon and Manu National Park Tour you’ll get to explore this haven of biodiversity, which borders Brazil and Bolivia, as our tour guide shows you the way through its magnificent wildlife and topography.

Itinerary

Day 1: Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion, Concepcion Trails, Twilight River

hacienda Inkaterra

Once you arrive in Puerto Maldonado, a city in southeastern Peru – which is a 1 hour and 30 minute flight from Lima or a 30 minute flight from Cusco, we’ll begin your amazing Amazonian adventure from the Puerto Maldonado port with a 25 minute boat ride. Meandering along the mysterious and murky waters of the Madre de Dios River, we’ll reach the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion, a jungle lodge hidden in the rich folds of the Amazonian rainforest.

Once you’ve settled into your cozy cabana, head on over to the palm thatched Casa Grande dining room where you’ll be treated to a delicious lunch buffet before setting off on foot to explore the thick of the lush Amazonian rainforest.

Along the trail you’ll witness firsthand the prolific ecosystem of the Amazon basin, as troops of monkeys swing from tree to tree, bright colored birds of vivid hues hover the air, and other curious creatures scuttle across the canopies overhead.

We’ll then venture into the Tambopata National Reserve which is home to an abundance of wildlife, teeming with mammals, birds, reptiles, and butterflies.

At dusk, we’ll take you on the enthralling Twilight Riverboat ride which features the Amazon river and rainforest at night, as you traverse across its glimmering waters under star-studded skies.

If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Caiman, large alligator like reptiles living in the swamps and marshes of the Peruvian Amazon.

You’ll then get to enjoy a scrumptious dinner, served à la carte, at the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion eco-reserve, inspired by local ingredients of the Amazon.

You’ll then retire for the night, being lulled to sleep by the serene sounds of the rainforest as you drift off into slumber, cozily in your cabana.

Day 2: Lake Sandoval, Canopy Walkway, Anaconda Walk

On day 2 of this tour, you’ll get to visit the Sandoval Lake which lies within the Tambopata National Reserve.

Get ready to be enamored by our tour guides’ tales of unexpected encounters with poisonous frogs and curious creatures resting in the deep undergrowth of the Amazon.

Flanked by tropical terrain, with palm trees dotting its banks, and mangroves rooted into its lakebed, this shimmering lake is where thousands of bird species, endangered river otters, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, turtles, and black caimans call home.

After the tour of Lake Sandoval, we’ll head back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, we’ll take a 20 minute boat ride across the Madre de Dios River to reach the Canopy Walkway. Here, you’ll get to walk safely among the canopies of the Amazonian rainforest along a 344 m / 1,135 ft. network of suspension bridges, securely and ecologically installed over 35 meters above the ground, granting you the most enchanting panoramic vistas of the Amazon. You might also get to see woodpeckers, white-throated toucans, the three-toed sloth, and squirrel monkeys, among the canopies of the rainforest.

Once the sun sets and night falls, you’ll get to travel through the rainforest on foot. This is a truly exhilarating adventure that’ll have you grappled from the get-go!

After the nocturnal jaunt within the Amazon, you’ll dine over a delicious dinner before retiring for the night.

Day 3: Butterfly House and Puerto Maldonado

puerto maldonado

On day 3 of your Amazon and Manu National Park Tour, you’ll get to enjoy your morning soaking up every last bit of the rugged and rambunctious terrestrial terrain.

You’ll then get to enjoy a nutritious breakfast in the Casa Grande dining room before you checkout of your hotel at 10:00 am.

Depending on the time at which your flight is to depart, we’ll hop on a boat and take a 25 minute trip across the Madre de Dios River to the airport, taking a quick pitstop at the Butterfly House, home to many of the over 3,700 butterfly species living in Peru.
