Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain, Red Valley, and Short Inca Trail

Perched high atop the Cordillera Vilcanota mountain range, Ausangate – Cusco’s loftiest peak – stands as a majestic giant, reaching an impressive altitude of over 6,000 meters. Situated 100 km southeast of Cusco, the trek to Ausangate unfolds a breathtaking panorama of the Peruvian Andes. Picture snow-capped peaks gracefully dipping and rising, glaciers cascading into serene azure pools, and vast pastures adorned with fluffy llamas, alpacas, guanacos, and vicuñas – Peru’s national treasures. This trek promises a mystical journey through the heart of Peru.

Along this adventure, we’ll also guide you to another must-see gem in Peru, the Instagram-worthy and truly enchanting Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or Montaña de Siete Colores, towering at 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) above sea level. Resembling a canvas where Jackson Pollock unleashed his creativity, the Rainbow Mountain showcases vivid streaks of mustard yellow, maroon, mauve, pink, turquoise, gold, and white – a result of mineral and sedimentary deposits etched into the landscape over time. Our journey will extend to the Red Valley, nestled behind the Rainbow Mountain in the Pitumarca district, at an elevation of 1,767 meters (5,797 feet) above sea level, where you’ll soak in the awe-inspiring vistas the valley has to offer.

This 5-day trek will also treat you to the legendary Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu: a brief hike through the enchanting Peruvian cloud forests and the Inca ruins of Chachabamba. The adventure culminates with a day’s exploration of one of Peru’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Machu Picchu. Get ready for an unforgettable journey through the wonders of Peru!
