You’ll be left feeling awe struck and gobsmacked at the engineering genius of the Inca who, devoid of metal tools, the wheel, drafting animals, and mortar to seal the bricks that built the Machu Picchu citadel, were able to erect ancient infrastructure that have since weathered the storms of age and earthquakes to survive a 500 year history.
Lying at an elevation of 2,430 m / 7,972 ft. above sea level, this Peruvian cultural gem lay hidden among the rainforests, slopes, and peaks of the Andean mountain range for over 400 years until it was rediscovered in 1911 by Yale University history lecturer, Hiram Bingham III.
Machu Picchu is composite of a captivating ancient urban area and impressive cascading agricultural terraces. Machu Picchu’s urban area features interesting infrastructure like the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows.

Itinerary
After a 4:00 am pickup from your hotel, we’ll drive you to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, we’ll take a 90 minute train ride to Machu Picchu town – also known as Aguas Calientes – the route of which runs parallel to the beautiful waters of the Urubamba River.
Upon arriving in Machu Picchu town or Aguas Calientes, we’ll hop on the 30 minute bus to Machu Picchu so we can make it in time to witness the spectacular sunrise.
You’ll then get to explore Machu Picchu for 3 hours while our tour guide sheds light on the ancient Incan ways and the alluring history behind the magnificent citadel.
You’ll then get to explore Peru’s urban areas independently and enjoy a little spontaneous exploration of Peru’s famed archeological site.
You’ll then hop on the bus and head down to Aguas Calientes, where you will reunite with our tour guide. You may then take a pitstop for lunch at a local Peruvian restaurant (not included in the tour package) and take a dip in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes (optional) before taking a 2 hour train ride back to Ollantaytambo. From here you will be chauffer driven to Cusco where you will be dropped off safely at your hotel.
