The 4 day Extended Luxury Inca Trail Trek will take you through archeological sites like Llactapata – also known as Patallacta – Runcu Racay, Dead Woman’s Pass, Sayacmarca, and the Sun Gate. The erection of these ancient monoliths by the Incas along steep mountain edges and slopes is an impressive feat and the sites therein are definitely worth a visit.
You’ll also get to see farming terraces, elaborate water fountains, and temples – a true testament to the sophistication of the Incan civilization. Traversing through different ecological zones, a fantastic valley, snow-capped mountains, and with over 450 species of birds and 200 species of orchids taking up residence along the Inca Trail, this path to Machu Picchu will be a truly sensory experience.

To kick start your Extended Luxury Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu, we’ll pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 am. We’ll then drive to Ollantaytambo where you’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast before being driven to km 82, the first check point on the Extended Luxury Inca Trail trek. Remember to have your passport at the ready when at the checkpoint.
Our crew will carry all your duffle bags while you hike with only your personal backpack in hand, carrying your essentials, allowing you more freedom to enjoy the Extended Luxury Inca Trail trek ahead.
The first 2 hours of the trek are relatively easy. You’ll travel through the Sacred Valley where local farmers still grow corn and potato, past snow-capped peaks of Wakay Willca or Mount Veronica, and the beautiful Urubamba river. Imbibe in the natural beauty of the Inca Trail until we reach the first Inca archeological site called Llactapata, an ancient Inca checkpoint to Machu Picchu.
A 20 minute walk from Llactapata will then take us to your lunch spot where a delicious lunch prepared by our local chef using the freshest natural and organic Peruvian ingredients, awaits your arrival.
After lunch, another 2 hour hike will take us to the first campsite in Wayllabamba. Our crew will cook and set up camp, while you rest and enjoy the view of the mountains before teatime and dinner.
On day 2 of the Extended Luxury Inca Trail, you’ll wake up to a hot cup of tea followed by breakfast. Considered the most challenging day of the Inca Trail, day 2 starts off with a 4 hour uphill trek to Llulluchapata where you’ll get to enjoy a scrumptious lunch.
After lunch, we’ll continue our hike with a 2 hour ascent to Dead Woman’s Pass which, lying at an elevation of 4,212 m / 13,818 ft. above sea level, is considered the highest point along the Inca Trail. Along the way you’ll see hummingbirds and Queuña trees among a variety of other bird species and native plants.
We’ll then take a 2 hour descent downhill to Chaquicocha in Pacaymayu Valley where you’ll find your second campsite on the Inca Trail. Here, you’ll be able to enjoy the sun as it sets over the Vilcabamba mountain range.
You’ll then be treated to a hot cup of tea and a spot of dinner after an exhausting day of trekking the Inca Trail.
On day 3 of the Extended Luxury Inca Trail you’ll wake up to a warm cup of tea, followed by breakfast. We’ll start the day’s journey with a 2 hour trek over the Pass which will take us to the Incan archeological site of Runcu Racay, distinguishable by its semi-circular architectural design. Along the way, you’ll also get to set your sights on a captivating waterfall, a true testament to the beauty of Peruvian wildlife and nature.
Then another 2 hour downhill trek will take us to the magnificent Sayacmarca. A 30 minute walk from there will take us to Chaquicocha, where a delicious buffet lunch awaits your arrival.
Fueled by a scrumptious lunch, we’ll then set off on a 1 hour 30 minute hike to the Phuyupatamarca campsite where you’ll get to enjoy a warm cup of tea and dinner before retiring for the night.
On day 4 of the Extended Luxury Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu, you’ll wake up to the usual morning’s hot cup of tea, followed by breakfast.
From Phuyupatamarca, we’ll go on a 3 hour walk down the Inca stairs to the next Inca site of Intipata or ‘Terraces of the Sun’ which overlooks the Urubamba River and Machu Picchu mountain.
Then it’s off to explore Wiñay Wayna while our tour guide explains the history of this remarkable Inca archeological complex. After the tour, we’ll take a brief pit stop for lunch.
Then it’s off to the checkpoint. A 1 hour walk will take us to Intipunku which means ‘Sun Gate’, as on a clear, mist-free day you can see the sunrise from behind Machu Picchu from this gateway.
We’ll then take a gradual downhill walk towards Machu Picchu. Once at Machu Picchu, you’ll have time to explore the legendary Inca citadel as our guide takes you on an immersive 2 hour tour of ancient architectural and engineering genius.
After the tour, we’ll hop on a bus and head down to Machu Picchu town, also known as Aguas Calientes, where our guide will hand you your train tickets. From Machu Picchu town yyou’ll take a 2 hour train to arrive in Ollantaytambo where our driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
