This full day tour will take you through Waqrapukara, an archeological site nestled amid Cusco’s Acomayo Province. One of the most amazing pre-Inca fortresses conquered by the Incas, Waqrapukara rests atop a peak overlooking the captivating Apurimac Valley and Apurimac River.
Literally translating to ‘Horn-shaped Fortress’, Waqrapukara features a unique architectural design with two haunting megalithic towers reaching up to the high heavens, protecting the impressively erected stone formations at the base of the citadel.
This Inca sanctuary, which legend dictates was General Tito Qosñipa’s stronghold in the failed rebellion against Inca emperor Huayna Capac, is now gaining popularity as one of Peru’s must-see destinations.
