After a 4:00 am pick up from your hotel, you’ll be driven to Ollantaytambo Train Station where we’ll catch the first train to Chachabamba, which lies at an elevation of 2,000 m / 6,561 ft. above sea level. This 80 minute train ride, running parallel to the Urubamba River, is a wonderful at-a-distance exploration of the lush landscapes of the Andes of Peru.
Upon arrival, we’ll head straight to the Chachabamba checkpoint with your passport in hand to begin the much-awaited trek to Machu Picchu.
Our first stop on the 2 day Short Inca Trail trek is the Inca archeological site of Chachabamba. We’ll then take a 4 hour uphill hike to Wiñay Huayna, a marvelous maze of Inca ruins surrounded by cascading steps built on the slopes of a hillside, overlooking the Urubamba River.
We’ll then take a pitstop to enjoy a delicious lunch before we set off on a walk to the Sun Gate, believed to have been the guardian gates to the Machu Picchu citadel.
We’ll then hop on a bus to Machu Picchu town or Aguas Calientes which lies at an elevation of 2,040 m / 6,693 ft. above sea level where you will enjoy a delicious dinner at a Peruvian restaurant.
You’ll then spend the night at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, one of Peru’s luxurious 5 star hotels, where you’ll get a good night’s rest before the day ahead.
After an early morning wakeup call and an energizing breakfast, we’ll check-out of the hotel and catch the first bus to Machu Picchu at 5:30 am just in time to witness the spectacular sunrise.
You’ll then be taken on a 2 – 3 hour tour of the Incan citadel in which our guide will take you on a journey through the ages, shedding light on the history, engineering genius, and lives of the ancient Incas.
You’ll then get to explore Peru’s urban areas independently and enjoy a little spontaneous exploration of Peru’s famed archeological site.
You’ll then hop on the bus and head down to Aguas Calientes, where you will reunite with our tour guide. You may then take a pitstop for lunch at a local restaurant (not included in the tour package) before hopping on a 2 hour train ride, aboard the luxurious Hiram Bingham Train, to Ollantaytambo. From here you will be chauffer driven to Cusco where you will be dropped off safely at your hotel.
For treks and tours, the deposit is $200 + $10 service fee = $210 per person. The remaining balance must be settled before the tour.
